A Red Star Express concert brings you some traditional Bluegrass music along with a good many other old-time favorites. The band offers a unique blend of talents in its Opry-style shows. We like to call it Newton-grass, based on our Newton, Wisconsin home.
You'll hear songs from the standards like legendary Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers or Doc Watson in our lineup.
But you are just as likely to encounter the music of Hank Williams, Suzy Boguss, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline or the Ozark Mountain Daredevils when listening to a Red Star Express performance
In addition to high harmonies and acoustic instrumentation, the Red Star Express program crosses from bluegrass into country, gospel, a bit of Cajun and some of the band's original music.
Hey, Hey! We even do a bit of Eric Clapton now and then.
Doing our own stuff...
The band prides itself in trying to put new songs into their repertoire,
including original music. Several band members have lent their
writing talents to the group, coming up with lyrics and arrangements
that range from the slow, melodic "Old Photographs"
and "What If I Called You Darling?" to the break-neck,
foot-stomping style of "I Ain't Gonna Be A Deadman."
